NAGAR

NAGAR filed a public interest litigation challenging the installation of 4G telecom towers in Mumbai’s public open spaces, arguing that Recreation Grounds and Playgrounds must remain free from non-permissible infrastructure. On 20 July 2015, the Bombay High Court granted an interim stay, directing the State of Maharashtra and other respondents not to issue any further permissions for installing TCS/BS towers in RGs or PGs. This protection was strengthened on 12 July 2016, when the Court ordered that the earlier ad-interim relief continue as interim relief. These orders have helped safeguard public open spaces from commercial encroachments while the case continues to be heard.
