NAGAR is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2000, with a vision to create a more transparent, equitable, and sustainable Mumbai. It works to strengthen governance and improve urban life through research, legal interventions, and advocacy. Grounded in civic action, NAGAR connects communities, policymakers, and institutions to build an inclusive urban future.
What We Do
Knowledge-based advocacy
We research and promote data-driven, practical solutions to urban challenges, engaging varied stakeholders to influence systemic change. NAGAR undertakes legal interventions to challenge policies that affect public welfare, ensuring legal protection of citizens’ rights.

Through campaigns, media engagement, and public dialogue, we highlight civic issues.

With a vision to be an effective and responsible voice on all issues of civic governance & functions, NAGAR aims to act as the nodal NGO bringing together individual, institutional, corporate and activist efforts in a responsible and holistic manner. Its mission is to catalyse Mumbai’s transformation through Advocacy of Good Governance and Renewal.
By promoting knowledge-based, practical solutions, NAGAR aims to help steer policy away from short-term populist measures and towards sustainable, best-practice urban strategies.
