NAGAR

Air Quality

NAGAR has actively worked to improve air quality in Mumbai through advocacy, legal interventions, and public engagement. The organisation participated in the V. M. Lal Committee to reduce vehicular pollution, contributing to the conversion of Mumbai’s taxi fleet to clean fuel and the phase-out of un-roadworthy heavy vehicles. It supported public hearings on the 2005 Mumbai floods, highlighting environmental and governance issues, and engaged in Mill Land hearings to promote fair urban development.

NAGAR has also raised public awareness through media campaigns, partnered with research institutions like NEERI, and approached regulatory authorities such as the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to monitor air pollution, including from construction and demolition activities. The organisation continues to follow up on policy implementation and plans roundtable discussions with citizens and authorities to strategise solutions for improving Mumbai’s ambient air quality.
