The audit, led by Parul Kumtha (Principal architect of Nature Nurture Architects and Planner and a trustee of NAGAR), with NAGAR and NPCCA, identified barriers in the everyday use of public spaces by people with disabilities and mobility challenges. This included visually impaired and hearing-impaired individuals, persons with upper and lower limb impairments, including wheelchair users, as well as elderly persons and those with temporary mobility limitations due to fractures or pregnancy.
The report presented high-priority and additional recommendations, organised by ease of implementation. These were intended to be read alongside the Harmonised Guidelines and Space Standards for Barrier-Free Built Environment for Persons with Disability and Elderly Persons (February 2016), ensuring that public spaces became safer, more inclusive, and accessible for all.
